Wow, this week flew by! I hope you're doing well and ready for the heat this weekend! I've been running around like crazy helping people buy houses before the school year starts, while still squeezing in some last bits of summer fun with the family.
In other news, Wichita's Ballpark District has officially broken ground after years of delays, I've got a full lineup of weekend events from free downtown concerts to a Back to School Splash, and this week's video digs into why Wichita's $573 million water plant still doesn't work... including a pretty shady detail about millions in penalties that quietly disappeared.
Let’s get into it!

Wichita’s Ballpark District Is On Its Way!
After years of anticipation, delays, revised plans, and wondering if we'd ever see construction begin, the Ballpark District is officially moving forward! Ground has finally been broken on the long-awaited development surrounding Equity Bank Park, turning years of renderings into real progress.

The first phase of the project will include a 150-unit apartment building, 10,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, a 160-room boutique hotel, and a 260-space parking garage that will support both the development and downtown events. The hotel is planned to feature a signature restaurant, coffee bar, lobby bar, rooftop lounge overlooking the ballpark, event space, fitness center, and pool—creating a destination that will be active well beyond baseball season.
Construction is expected to take about two years, with the first phase now targeting completion in 2028. While the project has faced several setbacks over the years—including funding challenges, revised agreements, and multiple deadline extensions—the developer says work is officially underway and will continue from here.
This development has always been envisioned as much more than a neighborhood next to the ballpark. The goal is to create a lively, walkable district where people can live, stay, eat, shop, and gather throughout the year. For a project that's become one of Wichita's most talked-about developments, it's exciting to finally say that the Ballpark District isn't just a plan anymore—it's officially under construction.
