Alright… I dropped the ball this week 😅 Friday was packed with showings and writing contracts, and the weekly email totally slipped my mind. Whoops. Better late than never though!

It’s cold this weekend, so our family is mostly staying in, but there’s still some good stuff worth sharing. There’s a big west-side corridor proposal to keep an eye on, a few weekend events if you’re willing to brave the cold, and I’ve got some great new listings at the bottom of the email you’ll want to check out!

Let’s jump in 👇

Major West Side Corridor Proposal!

🛣️ Sedgwick County Moves Forward on Major Corridor Proposal

Sedgwick County is taking new steps toward a long-discussed expressway project that would eventually connect U.S. 54 near Goddard to K-96 in Maize — a stretch many locals know is growing quickly and becoming more congested each year. This proposed corridor, often referred to as the Northwest Expressway, aims to give west-side residents and commuters a smoother, faster way to travel between these two high-traffic highways.

📈 What This Could Mean for Local Growth

For those who live, work, or regularly drive through west Wichita, Goddard, Maize, or the unincorporated county in between, this project has the potential to be a game-changer.

Here’s what’s on the table:

  • Less bottlenecking along west Kellogg — By providing a direct connection northward to K-96, the expressway could help ease the daily congestion we all feel near Goddard and west Wichita.

  • Better access between key communities — A direct route between Goddard and Maize means easier commutes to schools, jobs, and amenities across the west and northwest metro.

  • Space for new development — The area between these corridors has seen steady growth, and improved transportation could open doors for more neighborhoods, retail, local services, and business expansion.

  • Long-term planning for a fast-growing region — Instead of playing catch-up later, Sedgwick County is trying to get ahead of growth by planning infrastructure that supports future needs.

🛠️ Where Things Stand

Right now, county leaders are reviewing an agreement that would help move planning efforts forward. It’s still early in the process, and nothing is officially locked in — but this step signals a serious push toward making the corridor a reality.

If the project continues to advance, residents can expect:

  • More detailed route planning

  • Community input opportunities

  • Coordination with Wichita, Maize, Goddard, and state officials

  • Long-term construction timelines once plans are finalized

🔎 Why Locals Should Pay Attention

This corridor won’t just shape traffic patterns — it will influence how the west side grows over the next decade and beyond. Whether you commute along Kellogg, have kids in west-side schools, are thinking about building a home, or simply want to see smarter regional planning, this project is worth watching closely.

A new expressway connecting U.S. 54 and K-96 could reshape everyday travel, support new local businesses, and expand access across the entire northwest part of the metro. It’s a big move — and one that could have long-lasting benefits for the communities many of us call home.
