Happy (early) Valentine’s Day!

I got to celebrate a little early with two of my daughters at Chick-fil-A’s Daddy-Daughter Date Night. They did an amazing job making it a special night for us — red carpet, free photos, and even a candlelit dinner. Big shoutout to the west side location… we’ll definitely be back!

In other news, I’ve got some exciting things to share with you this week, including big upgrades coming to the Redbud Trail and plenty of Valentine’s events in case you’re still looking for plans.

I also included a link to my latest YouTube video where I break down the controversial $192 million sports park coming to Wichita. If you live here, you’ll want to know what’s going on.

Let’s get into it!

Big Things Ahead for the Redbud Trail!

I don’t know about you, but I’m so ready for spring bike rides and walks — and Wichita just gave us even more to look forward to! The city has announced a major expansion of the beloved Redbud Trail, one of our community’s favorite multi-use paths for biking, walking, running, or just enjoying the outdoors with friends and family.

Stretching more than 15 miles from east Wichita all the way to Augusta, the Redbud Trail is already a gem in our city’s trail system. Now, improvements are underway that will make it even better and more user-friendly for everyone.

🛠️ What’s Being Upgraded

Here’s what’s coming with this expansion:

  • Wider pathways — making the trail safer and more comfortable whether you’re pedaling a bike, pushing a stroller, or out for a jog.

  • A brand-new pedestrian bridge over Rock Road, improving connectivity and safety for trail users.

  • Ongoing upgrades that support everyday use (not just weekend recreation), especially for folks who ride or walk to work or errands.

Advocates say the wider, smoother pathway is not just about recreation — it’s about creating a safe, accessible transportation corridor that helps more people get around town without a car.

🛣️ What to Expect During Construction

Because this is a big project, there will be some temporary closures while work gets underway — especially on the stretch from Woodlawn & Farmview to K-96 near Greenwich. That portion of trail will be closed through much of the construction period, which is expected to last into early 2027.

Don’t worry — it’s a short-term compromise for long-term enjoyment! Locals who rely on Redbud for commutes or weekend rides are encouraged to plan alternate routes during that time.

Wichita’s trail system is already something to brag about — and the Redbud Trail expansion is another step toward making this city even easier to explore with legs (or wheels!) of our own.

Wichita’s $192 Million Sports Park: Bold Move or Big Risk?

Wichita just approved a massive $192 million sports and entertainment district off K-96—and it includes indoor surfing, go-karts, and even skydiving. Sounds wild, right?

But here’s the thing: it’s being paid for with a controversial funding tool that doesn’t always work out.

In this week’s video, I break down what’s really coming, who’s paying for it, and what it could mean for families living nearby.
