These cool mornings have got me pumped up for fall! This past week I took our oldest two to the AMC Theater to see Paw Patrol. They love movies, so getting to see the "big screen" is one of their favorite things to do. I've also been showing TONS of houses lately (I even snapped a picture of the biggest privately owned antenna I've ever seen) and scrolling through way too many kitchen inspo pictures on Instagram. In other news, the historic Nomar Theatre is being reborn as Provecho, a $12 million food hall and gathering spot in the North End, I've got a full lineup of weekend events from the Margarita Festival to ICT Comic Con, and this week's video is a full breakdown of what it's actually like to move to Wichita in 2026... including the tax bill that catches a lot of people off guard.

Remember the historic Nomar Theatre on North Market? It’s about to get a whole new life! After years of planning, Empower has officially broken ground on Provecho, a $12 million project that will transform the nearly century-old theater and the building next door into a vibrant food, shopping and community destination in Wichita’s North End.

So, what exactly is Provecho? Think food hall meets neighborhood gathering place. The project will feature seven food vendor spaces, a bar and cantina, retail vendors, indoor market space and event areas, giving local entrepreneurs a place to launch and grow their businesses. The historic theater itself will become a space where people can sit down, enjoy their food, listen to live music and take part in events.

And the history here is pretty special. The Spanish-style Nomar Theatre opened in 1929 and was once a major gathering place for Wichita's North End. After sitting dormant for nearly 40 years, it’s now being brought back as a place designed to bring people together once again—this time around food, culture and local businesses.

The project is also an important next step for Empower’s work in the Nomar District. The nonprofit already operates commercial kitchen space nearby that helps food entrepreneurs prepare and grow their businesses, and Provecho will give those kinds of entrepreneurs an opportunity to take the next step and reach customers in a permanent food-hall setting.

There are even plans for a large outdoor patio along 21st Street, thanks in part to the city reducing a portion of the street to one lane in front of the project. The goal is to create more than just somewhere to grab a bite—it’s to create a destination that helps spark even more development and activity throughout the North End.

And honestly, Provecho is a pretty fitting name—it’s the Spanish equivalent of “bon appétit.” We’ll definitely be saying ¡buen provecho! when this place opens.
