It’s Memorial Day Weekend!

Time for family gatherings, picnics, barbecues, lake days—or however you celebrate this much-anticipated long weekend! It’s also the first weekend many local pools and splash pads open for the season—how exciting is that?

But beyond the sunshine and fun, Memorial Day carries a deeper meaning. Did you know it was originally known as Decoration Day? It began after the Civil War as a way to honor and decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. Today, it serves as a national day of remembrance for all who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Wichita’s biggest summer celebration kicks off May 30th and runs through June 7th — get ready for nine days of fun, music, food, and festivities in the heart of downtown.
