New Redbud Trail Bridge Connection

A long-anticipated connection between Andover and Augusta is finally complete with the opening of the new Redbud Trail bridge over Highway 54/400. The pedestrian and bike bridge marks a major milestone for the region, allowing trail users to safely travel between the two communities for the first time.
The project has been years in the making, led by the Andover Augusta Rail Trail Initiative (AARTI) and supported by both cities and local volunteers. With the bridge now open, walkers, runners, and cyclists can enjoy a continuous stretch of trail from east Wichita through Andover and toward Augusta, offering scenic views and a smooth, accessible surface for all users.
The new connection not only improves safety and recreation options but also sets the stage for future expansion. Plans are already underway to extend the trail farther into Augusta, including construction of the Whitewater River bridge and completion of the final trail segments. When finished, the Redbud Trail will serve as a regional destination for outdoor enthusiasts and a vital link between Sedgwick and Butler Counties.
The opening of the bridge is being celebrated as a turning point for the Redbud Trail’s future — transforming a once-abandoned rail corridor into a thriving, connected space that encourages health, community, and local exploration.
