Welcome to the special Saturday edition of my newsletter! I hope you've had a great week! This past week we took a trip up to Elderslie Farm and picked blackberries. The girls had a blast riding the wagon out to the brambles and reaching for the ripe ones up high that nobody had gotten to yet. They also have an amazing flower patch where you can pick your own bouquet. If you haven't been, it's worth the drive up to Kechi to check it out!
In other news, downtown Wichita is finally getting a full-service grocery store, I've got a lineup of weekend events from a free Andover concert to Adult Prom, and this week's video digs into Wichita's growth story... including the parts nobody really talks about, like schools closing on one side of town while the suburbs can't build fast enough.
Let’s get into it!

Downtown Is Getting A Grocery Store!
After years of conversations, studies, and wish lists from downtown residents, Wichita is finally getting something many people have been asking for: a full-service grocery store in the heart of downtown.

City leaders recently announced plans for a new grocery store, bringing fresh food, household essentials, and everyday shopping within walking distance of thousands of downtown residents. For many people who live in apartments and condos downtown, this has been one of the biggest missing pieces of daily life.
The project is expected to be part of the larger redevelopment of the area between First and Second Streets and Topeka and Emporia Avenues, an area that has already been attracting new housing, retail, and entertainment investment. The grocery store will help anchor that development and create a true neighborhood-style shopping option for people living downtown.
While final construction timelines and store branding details are still being finalized, the announcement represents a major milestone for downtown Wichita. Residents have long said that having a grocery store nearby would make downtown living more convenient and attractive, and city officials believe it will help support continued residential growth in the area.
And honestly, this feels like one of those projects that signals how much downtown has changed. A decade ago, the conversation was often about how to bring people downtown. Today, the conversation is about how to support the thousands of people who already live there—and having a grocery store within walking distance is a big part of that.

Wichita KS is BOOMING… But Here’s What Nobody Tells You
You've seen the headlines. Boeing's $8.3 billion Spirit deal, a $160 million beach resort in Derby, the biggest highway contract in state history on Kellogg. All real. But the growth isn't landing evenly. Wichita's district is closing schools while the suburbs can't build fast enough, and property taxes and insurance are climbing quietly in the background. My new video breaks down both sides, neighborhood by neighborhood.
