It sure is beautiful outside today, but do you remember that bitter cold on Monday?! Hoping we're officially done with that. Yesterday we took the kids to the new Exploration Place Playscape and it was amazing. Seriously one of the coolest things to come to Wichita in a long time.

This week I've got big news about the 1st Street Bridge redesign, a packed weekend events lineup (Hadestown, TobyMac, Harlem Globetrotters, and more), and my favorite listings.

I also just dropped a new YouTube video covering 15 things that might make you think twice about moving to Wichita. Worth a watch if you or someone you know has ever considered making the move!

Let’s get into it!

Wichita’s Next Iconic Bridge!

Big changes are coming to downtown Wichita—and this one is going to be hard to miss (in the best way). The 1st Street Bridge over the Arkansas River is getting a full replacement, and it’s not just about improving traffic flow—it’s about creating a statement piece for the city.

The current bridge is being replaced as part of a major infrastructure upgrade, with construction expected to stretch into 2027. During this time, drivers can expect closures and detours to continue as crews work to build a safer, more modern crossing into downtown.

But here’s where it gets exciting: this won’t be your typical bridge. Plans include large, decorative arches that will rise above the roadway, giving the bridge a bold, modern look and instantly recognizable skyline feature. The design is meant to reflect Wichita’s identity—blending function with eye-catching architecture that adds to the riverfront experience.

Beyond the arches, the new bridge is also being designed with people in mind—not just cars. Expect wider pedestrian and bike paths, improved safety features, and even areas where you can pause and take in views of the Arkansas River.

This project is a great example of how Wichita continues to invest in both infrastructure and aesthetics—making everyday places like bridges feel a little more special. So yes, there may be a few traffic headaches along the way, but once it’s complete, this will be one of those “very Wichita” landmarks you’ll actually want to drive (or walk) across.
