Happy Friday! This past week we celebrated some birthdays at our house with a giant inflatable waterslide. The girls played on it no less than 8 hours total over the weekend, so I can't wait to see what my water bill ends up being! In other news, the Redbud Trail is getting a new pedestrian bridge over Rock Road, I've got a full lineup of weekend events from Autumn & Art to Orie's Garlic Fest, and this week's video digs into the data centers quietly lining up more than a thousand acres of farmland just west of Wichita... and what it could mean for your water, power bills, and property taxes. If you’ve ever walked, run or biked the Redbud Trail, you know it’s already one of the best ways to get outside and explore the Wichita area. But one of the biggest projects in the trail’s continued expansion is already taking shape: a new pedestrian bridge over Rock Road!

The bridge will allow trail users to safely cross over Rock Road instead of having to navigate the busy intersection below. It’s part of a larger project that is also upgrading a section of the Redbud Trail between Woodlawn and K-96, including replacing the existing gravel surface with concrete.

And that’s not the only exciting progress happening along the Redbud. To the east, a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Highway 54/400 was completed in late 2025, helping move the long-term vision of connecting the trail all the way from Wichita through Andover and eventually into Augusta another step closer.

The Redbud Trail already stretches nearly 16 miles when the Wichita and Andover portions are combined, and the ultimate goal is to create even more connectivity between communities. With the new bridge over Rock Road and continued expansion toward Augusta, this local trail system is becoming more than just a place for a quick walk — it’s turning into an even bigger destination for biking, running and getting outside.

And honestly, we love seeing projects like this that make it easier and safer to explore Wichita on foot or by bike! 🌳🚴‍♀️

Two companies have quietly lined up more than a thousand acres of farmland just west of Wichita, and most of the neighbors had no idea until months after the paperwork was signed. This week I dug into what a data center out there would actually mean for our water, our power bills, and our property taxes. One of the two things people are most worried about turns out to be mostly handled already. The other one is real, and so far nobody has answered for it.
